Four USGA P.J. Boatwright Interns Join NJSGA For 2024 Season

KENILWORTH, N.J. - Four USGA P.J. Boatwright interns - Adriana Fulco, Samantha Ondrush, Eric Schubert and Carter Shipley have joined the New Jersey State Golf Association team this summer to assist with day-to-day functions in the Championships, Operations, and Communications departments.

As part of the organization’s commitment to foster a more inclusive game and connect more individuals to careers in golf, the USGA funds the program, in part through philanthropic contributions, and works closely with AGAs on intern recruitment and training.

"The opportunity of the Boatwright program is twofold," said Kevin Purcell, NJSGA Executive Director. "The NJSGA gains hardworking young men and women to assist at tournaments, member days, and special events as well as with communications and marketing. The Boatwright Intern sees golf administration from the inside working alongside our talented staff to provide great golf experiences for our members. There is no better entry point to a career in golf.”

As part of the Boatwright experience, Adriana, Eric and Samantha attended the 2024 Boatwright Summit at USGA Headquarters in Liberty Corner. The three-day orientation included instructional sessions led by USGA staff – including many Boatwright alumni – on Course Rating, agronomy, Rules, championship administration and the World Handicap System.

Since 1991, the program has helped launch the careers of more than 3,000 individuals with many alumni holding leadership positions throughout golf, broader sports industries and beyond. Approximately 32 percent of AGA executive directors and 35 percent of all AGA staff are Boatwright alumni.

Boatwright interns learn to manage all aspects of the game during their internships, which last from three months to one year.

In addition to the four Boatwright interns for the 2024 season, the NJSGA also added Kevin Caswell as a Membership Services and Caddie Scholarship Foundation Intern.
