Four Advance to 76th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship
LIVINGSTON, N.J. - Four boys qualified for the 76th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship on Wednesday after a qualifying round at Cedar Hill Golf and Country Club. Ryan Downes (Longmeadow, MA.), Liam Pasternak (Morristown, N.J.), Lance Hollingshead (Basking Ridge, N.J.), and Caden Piselli (Milford, CT.) punched their tickets to compete at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan from July 22-27.
Downes fired a 4-under par 66, shooting even on his front nine and ending strong on his back-nine, birdieing three of his final five holes. The New England native won the Massachusettes Amateur in 2023.
Hollingshead, Piselli, and Pasternak finished the day 3-under par 67 to earn their spot in Michigan. Hollingshead and Piselli each recorded six birdies, as Pasternak followed with five.
Earlier in May, Pasternak outlasted a three-hole playoff to win the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Tournament of Champions at Raritan Valley Country Club.
Hollingshead, another New Jersey native, won his second Somerset County Title and third overall in April. He his set to attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall.
