Five Moving on to 37th U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur

NORTH CALDWELL, N.J. - Five players qualified for the 37th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship after a qualifying round at Green Brook Country Club on Tuesday. Morgan Yurosek (Irvine, California), Kate Granahan (Mountain Lakes, New Jersey), Lauren Smykle (Briarcliff Manor, New York), Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, New Jersey), and Nikki Powers (Stamford, Connecticut) punched their ticket to compete at Brae Burn Country Club in Massachusetts from September 7-12.

Yurosek fired 1-over par 72 to claim medalist honors. On the 6,018-yard course, she carded three birdies.

Two New Jersey golfers qualified in Granahan and Parsells after impressive play down the stretch. Granahan had a blemish-free back nine to secure her qualifiying spot.

“I started to figure out the greens on the back nine,” said Granahan. “I haven’t played a lot of competitive golf this summer, so getting back into the flow on the back nine worked out for me.”

Parsells was set to be out of contention it seemed, but climbed back into the running after birdies on Holes 17 and 18.

“I started to figure out my irons by the end of the day,” Parsells reflected. “I had my dad on the bag which he hasn’t done in a while, so that helped me through it.”

After a playoff for the fifth spot, the two alternate spots remained for Jacquie Faldetta-Silver (New York, New York) and Amy Ding (New York, New York).
