Fenton and Rafter Repeat as New Jersey Women’s Four-Ball Champions
PRINCETON, N.J. – The duo of Mary Fenton and Colleen Rafter survived a playoff against Anna Turner and Jewell Lynn to capture the 10th New Jersey Women’s Four-Ball Championship for a second consecutive year.
“We were really trying to play smart, but aggressive,” said Rafter. “That’s a hard combination to hit because this course has so many blind shots. If you back off or play tentatively, you’re going to totally blow it.”
The pair shot a 3-over par 75 at TPC Jasna Polana to win the gross championship. Despite falling in the playoff for the gross championship, Turner and Lynn went on to claim the overall net with a 14-under par 58.
Fenton and Rafter tallied two birdies and 11 pars on their scorecard en route to the victory.
“I have a lot of confidence in Colleen,” said Fenton of the playoff.
“That’s a dicey hole,” Rafter recalled. “If you play smart and aggressive, you got it. When everybody started pouring in and coming to watch, we went into the zone and block everything out, it’s just a golf shot. That’s what we did.”
