Eagle Oaks Set to Host NJSGA/NJPGA Senior Open Championship
FARMINGDALE, N.J. – Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club is set to host the 33rd NJSGA/NJPGA Senior Open Championship this upcoming week. From June 1-2, 96 amateurs and 48 professionals will compete for the Emery Thomas Trophy.
Founded in 1991 and designed by Johnny Miller, the Central Jersey golf course features a variety of holes that range between links, open meadows and deeply forested landscapes.
David Quinn of Laurel Creek, who shot 6-under 65 to win the 32nd Senior Open by one stroke last year at Springdale, returns to defend the championship. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 event was shortened to 18 holes.
Quinn’s victories include the Philadelphia PGA Section Championship in 2006 and 2013, the Philadelphia Open in 2006, and the Philadelphia Senior Section Championship in 2017. He is a five-time Philadelphia Section Player of the Year.
The field also features Jim McGovern of White Beeches Golf & Country Club and Frank Esposito Jr. of Forsgate, two renowned Garden State golfers who will be coming off appearances in the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. Esposito finished as the NJSGA/NJPGA Senior Open runner-up in 2020, while McGovern earned a runner-up finish in 2019. The pair have combined for five NJSGA/NJPGA Senior Open titles, dating back to 2014.
The jam-packed field also features former champions Mark McCormick (2019), Pete Busch (2009), Bill King (2007) and Bob Wenz (1992, 93).
