Desai, Hyland, Finger, Browndorf Gain Mid-amateur Semifinals
Nick Desai of Baltusrol, the 2015 NJSGA Pre-Senior champion, defeated two-time and defending champion Trevor Randolph of Arcola, 1 up, in the quarterfinals of the 32nd NJSGA Mid-Amateur Championship on Wednesday at Arcola Country Club in Paramus.
Desai won on the 419-yard, par-4 18th hole with a par to a bogey for Randolph who won the event in both 2014 and 2013. Randolph had won his fifth club championship at Congressional in Maryland on Monday.
Desai advances to Thursday morning’s semifinals at 7 a.m. to face Michael Hyland of Little Mill, the 1998 State Amateur champion, who edged Darin Goldstein of Bayonne, 1 up. Hyland won the par-4 17th hole with a par and the players then halved the 18th with pars.
In the other quarterfinal matches, Matt Finger of Darlington ousted Dan Macdonald of Arcola, 3 and 2, and advances to face John Browndorf of Deal. Browndorf beat Marc Grinberg of Charleston Springs, 2 up. Finger vs. Browndorf is set for 7:09 a.m. Macdonald is the 2014 Arcola club champion.
The final match takes place shortly after the completion of the semifinal matches.
