Deng totaled seven birdies and one eagle in 15 holes for the day with the eagle on No. 14 giving Deng the final edge to win.

“My iron shots helped me,” said Deng. “I hit them close and then tried to make the putts.”

Shao took an early lead to start, but Deng fired off five consecutive birdies which gave her a 3-up lead after the eighth hole.

Deng, who is the 184th WAGR-ranked female, will receive an exemption for the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at El Caballero Country Club in California. In the 2023 edition of the event, Deng advanced to the Round of 32.

“It feels great to go back,” Deng said. “I hope I can play even better than last year.”

Shao will also be headed to El Caballero as she previously advanced through a qualifying round at Cedar Hill Country Club last month and will be competing alongside Deng.
