Christopher Lee Earns Medalist Honors at Final Public Links Qualifier
WEST ORANGE, N.J. – Qualifying for the 87th New Jersey State Golf Association Public Links Championship wrapped up on Thursday afternoon as Christopher Lee shot an even-par 70 at Francis Byrne Golf Course. Fourteen players and ties qualified for the championship held at Ballyowen Golf Club in Hamburg on August 18.
“My iron shots were pretty good today,” said Lee. “I gave myself some pretty good chances at birdie. I drained some important birdie putts, which were a big factor in today’s round.”
Lee, of Overpeck Golf Course carded four birdies throughout his round, highlighted by a birdie on the 18th.
“I tried to keep my head in the game,” explained Lee. “I was 1-over with four holes left, so I wanted to make sure I finished at least even par, I think I gave myself a good chance.”
Chris Brooks and Justin Nowell shot a 2-over 72 to finish together in second. The 36-hole championship will be played on August 18, where golfers will compete for the Daniel Billy Trophy.
