Brandon Capone of Mercer Oaks Golf Course
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. - It was a pleasantly warm day at Hidden Creek Golf Club as the 5th South Jersey Cup concluded on Monday afternoon. Brandon Capone earned the Men’s Amateur title, Samantha Perrotta claimed the Women’s Amateur and Dennis Murphy grabbed the Men’s Senior division.
Capone, the current women’s golf coach at Thomas Jefferson University recorded five birdies on the 6,612 yard course en route to a 3-under par 68.
"It was really the putter," Capone explained of what was working well. "I just was making a ton of putts."
Capone, 31, also earned an exemption into the 123rd New Jersey Amateur Championship with his victory.
"It's good -- because qualifying for the Amateur, it's tough," Capone said of the exemption. "You have to play really good on those days, it's not a shoe-in, so it's really nice to not have the pressure to qualify. I can just get ready for the championship."
In the Women’s Net division, Mickey Kane shot 12-under par 60.
