Thirteen Advance in Mid-Am Qualifier at Little Mill; Rudisill Medals
MARLTON, N.J. – Thirteen players have advanced to Union League National Golf Club to compete in the 41st Mid-Amateur Championship after a qualifying round at Little Mill Country Club on May 16. Jonathan Rudisill fired a score of even par, 72 to earn medalist honors.
Rudisill, who is coming off a quarterfinal round appearance in the 92nd Four-Ball Championship last week, was able to continue his strong play as of late. Despite some wet weather, Rudisill putt his way through a tough test in Little Mill on his way to the top of the leaderboard.
“I just made a couple putts. I drove it half-decent, hit a few good shots and when I needed to get up and down, I was able to do that,” said Rudisill. “But I made a few putts, basically.”
Coming in behind Rudisill at one-over par, 73, was Little Mill’s own, Brandon Roche. Roche rode a hot start of two birdies in through the first four holes, as well as his course knowledge to a qualifying spot.
“This course, without knowing it, can be really difficult so I had a strategy coming in to lay back and take advantage of the holes where I can do so and focus on making par on some of the tougher ones,” said Roche. “I was able to do that through the first few holes. Those first four holes you’d at least like to have a look at birdie, and I was able to make the putts where I needed to.”
Little Mill served as the penultimate qualifying sites for the 41st Mid-Amateur Championship at Union League National, which will host its first NJSGA major championship from June 4-6. One qualifying date remains for the championship on May 20 at Westlake Golf and Country Club.
