Beacon Hill C.C. Defies Odds With Three Aces On Same Day

In a span of about 45 minutes, Beacon Hill Country Club enjoyed a flurry of aces that will never be forgotten.

Playing in the men’s Opening Day tournament at the Atlantic Highlands club, members Dr. Robert Breeden, Jim Beatty and Chuck Antonnen, in that order, all recorded holes-in-ones on Saturday morning, April 12, between 10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

“It was unbelievable. What can you say? We’ve never had two in a day. We get maybe four or five in a year,” said head professional Chuck Edwards. “I had just ordered 12 extra flags for special events like this and went through a quarter of my supply in a single day.”

Edwards was conducting a Pot of Gold event on the ninth green and witnessed the aces hit by Dr. Breeden and Anttonen. Beatty’s came on the 18th, which is nearby the ninth.

Antonnen, who played with Joe Stacy and Tim Screen, helped his team to victory in the Opening Day tournament with his ace. Antonnen used a pitching wedge on the 145-yard hole.

Dr. Breeden, playing with Andy DelVecchio, Nick Gialanella and John Loftus, used a 7-iron. Beatty used a 3-hybrid for his ace on the 195-yard 18th hole. He played with Anthony Freeman, Peter Reinhart and Paul Flaim.

Last year, Beacon Hill had five aces in the entire season. One website estimated the odds of three aces in one day at the same course as 3 million to one. According to a Golf Digest study, the odds of a single player making an ace are 5,000 to one for a low handicapper and 12,000 to one for an average playe
