Arcola C.C. Hires Grant Sturgeon As Head Professional

Grant Sturgeon, an assistant pro at Winged Foot the past four years, has been named head golf professional at Arcola Country Club in Paramus.

Sturgeon has extensive experience in teaching, merchandising, conducting men’s, women’s and junior golf programs and is a very accomplished player. Prior to Winged Foot, he worked as a first assistant at Oakmont Country Club, Hurstbourne Country Club and Louisville Country Club.

Sturgeon, 38, is a native of Cave City, Kentucky. He won the Met Open in 2014, made the cut at the PGA Championship at Hazeltine in 2009, and won the Kentucky State Open in 2002.

“Grant brings everything a golf professional should encompass, from teaching, merchandising, and running programs for men, women and juniors. He is a well-rounded, experienced golf professional,” said Brian Celiberti, golf committee chairman at Arcola.

“We are thrilled to have him. As far as we are concerned, he is certainly one of the top assistants in the country and in our metropolitan area. We like his teaching approach. He has a thorough understanding of golf and the golf swing which translates to every level of golfer,” Celiberti added.

Grant holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Louisville. He plans to move from Westchester County to New Jersey this winter.

“I was very patient in finding the perfect place for my first head professional opportunity. Arcola seems a perfect fit for what I waited for,” said Sturgeon, who played on three mini-tours.

“I classify myself as a golf guy. I’m someone who loves the game and is passionate about playing every day and getting better. If I’m able to help the members enjoy golf at Arcola, I’ll be very happy. Golf has been amazing to me and I want it to be special to them,” Sturgeon said.

Sturgeon was hired after an extensive search process chaired by Celiberti, together with our former Golf Committee Chairman, Al Costello, Grounds Committee Chairman, Jim Craffey, and club president Michael McBride. The Search Committee worked tirelessly with over 125 resumes submitted to select the right candidate for Arcola.

Grant will join Arcola on January 1, 2017.
