BEDMINSTER, N.J. - Gregg Angelillo of Baltusrol Golf Club claimed his fourth Pre-Senior Championship title on Wednesday after a two-day score of even-par (71-73) 144 in the 66th edition of the championship at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club.

Angelillo, 54, repeated as champion after winning in 2023 at Rossmoor Golf Course. Angelillo’s previous titles came in 2021 (Edgewood CC) and 2018 (Roxiticus GC).

"I’m so thrilled to win it,” expressed Angelillo. “Winning any tournament in the state is a big deal.”

In the opening round, Angelillo shot a 1-under par 71, holding a one stroke lead over Brian Komline of Black Oak Golf Club.

Angelillo remained consistent, firing a 1-over par in the final round, highlighted by an eagle on the par five 11th.

"I really felt comfortable out here,” said Angelillo. “I executed some good shots and made some bogeys. I didn’t make a double bogey over the two rounds.”

This year marks Angelillo’s final year of eligibility in this event. He was able to take in the moment with his kids, Michael, 15 and Mia, 11.

"They start school tomorrow so it’s kind of like an activity,” Angelillo joked. “My (other) daughter, Ava, had field hockey and couldn’t make it today. Michael is enthusiastic out here - he’s all over the place trying to get reads and yardages. Mia kept me focused when I got a little hot. It was awesome to have them here.”

Komline, a two-time New Jersey Open Champion (2005, 2007) finished in second place, carding a 1-over par 145, as Greg O’Connor finished in solo third, carding rounds of 77-73.

Komline rallied on the back nine on Tuesday, cutting Angelillo’s lead down to two after an eagle on No. 13. An unfortunate bogey on the ensuing hole set Komline back and Angelillo was able to finish

“Today was the best pairing I could have ever had,” Angelillo said of his final pairing alongside Komline. "Brian's been such a friend and an inspiration for us. He's one of the more decorated amateurs in New Jersey. I can't say enough about his personality, his character, and his ability, too.”

Angelillo won the 2024 NJPGA/NJSGA Senior Open this past May at Forsgate Country Club. Once he turns 55, Angelillo will be eligible for the NJSGA’s Senior Amateur Championship. He’ll have his sights set adding more senior competition to his schedule.

"I’m excited to see what the senior circuit brings. I see a lot of the majors and I certainly want to make a U.S. Senior Open or U.S. Senior Amateur,” added Angelillo. “I’m excited for that next chapter of golf.”
