With his son Michael caddying for him, Angelillo, an amateur, recorded eight birdies.

“He keeps me focused because I may be talking to Kevin (Maciorowski), or I’m saying hi to somebody else and he’ll grab me and get me back in my lane,” Angelillo said. “He’s a great asset for me to have out there.”

Angelillo won the Pre-Senior Championship at Rossmoor in 2023.

"I started a little different than last year,” said Angelillo. “I bogeyed the first hole, which sent me off a little bit. I felt comfortable driving the ball today. I hit it in some good spots where I could get some wedges in my hand.”

Right behind Angelillo, Brooklake Country Club head golf professional Dave McGovern is two strokes behind, shooting a 3-under par 69.

The final round of the Senior Open will take place on Wednesday, May 29 at Forsgate Country Club on the Banks course.
