Andruskevich Takes Junior Title, Corbo Boys Title
CONVENT STATION, N.J. The NJSGA/William Y. Dear Boys’ and Junior Championships concluded today at Morris County Golf Club with Alexander Andruskevich of Plainfield C.C. winning the Junior division and Dillon Corbo of Rockaway River C.C. winning the Boys’ division.
Both the semi-final and final matches were contested on a beautiful day at Morris County, which played to approximately 6,360 yards. The tournament started on Monday with 18 holes of stroke play qualifying followed on Tuesday by the first and second rounds of match play competition.
Andruskevich played steady golf in winning his championship match 4&2 against Tom Gliozzo of Shadow Isle G.C. En route to his championship match, Andruskevich bested Bryan Leddy, Matthew Cohen and Christopher Cerven. Andruskevich will be a senior at The Riverdale School in NYC and plays on the golf team; in addition, he is the reigning junior club champion at Plainfield.
In the Boys’ division, Dillon Corbo cruised to a 4&2 victory over Garrett Conway of Burlington C.C. Corbo jumped out to a quick lead by birdying four of his first six holes. In a well-played match, Conway could not recover from this early deficit. En route to his championship match, Corbo bested Matt Caughey, Bobby Krueger and John Havay. The Boys’ title caps a big week for Corbo, as he also won the men’s club championship at Rockaway River on Sunday.
The medalists in the stroke play qualifying round were Eric Salizzoni in the Junior division, who shot 73, and Dylan Lam and Corbo in the Boys’ division, who each shot 74.
