Adam Armagost Wins 63rd Senior Amateur Championship presented by NJM Insurance Group
WEST TRENTON, N.J. – Adam Armagost, of Little Mill Country Club came from behind to win the 63rd New Jersey State Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship presented by the NJM Insurance Group on Wednesday afternoon at Trenton Country Club. Armagost put together a one-under 70, notching the low round of the day.
"I'm happy and shocked," said Armagost following his win. "I was upset how I played the back nine, but held it together the last five holes."
Frank Abbott, of Oak Hill Golf Club led nearly the entire final round, but tallied a pair of bogeys on No. 17 and 18 to fall short and finish in second place.
Armagost, 58, started the day three strokes behind the first-round leader, Jim Beadle. He tallied six birdies in his final round on Wednesday en route to the title. On the front nine, Armagost shot a three-under 33, recording just one blemish on No. 6. On the back nine, he shot a one-over 37, highlighted by a birdie on No. 17, which proved to be the difference.
"Patience and my putter early on," Armagost said of what was working in his final round. "I thought if I could get to even par for the tournament, it would be good enough."
A former professional, in October 2020 Armagost won the Florida Senior Amateur Championship.
