EWING, N.J. – On a chilly and breezy day at Mountain View Golf Course in Ewing, seven teams qualified for the 90th New Jersey Four-Ball Championship, which is set for May 16-18 at Deal Golf & Country Club.
The tandems of Max O’Hagan and Cameron Bell and John Havay and Erik Diamond carded a 4-under 68 on Thursday while navigating the tough conditions. O’Hagan and Bell, NJSGA E-Club members notched five birdies and just one blemish on the afternoon. They opened the back nine with three consecutive birdies.
“I thought we communicated very well as a team,” explained O’Hagan. “We had a pretty clear game plan at the start of the day and we executed that very well. The wind made it much harder at times and we had to adapt but I think we adapted pretty well out there and hit some nice approach shots which led to a couple birdies”
Havay, of High Bridge Hills Golf Club and Diamond, of Preakness Valley Golf Course also collected five birdies and one bogey.
“We both didn’t have our best stuff today,” said Havay. “He (Erik) seemed to pull his weight where I didn’t pull mine, and vice versa. We got up and down in spots where we needed to.”
Jeremy Wall, of Manasquan River Golf Club and Robert Weise of Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club as well as the Navesink Country Club duo of Casey and Bryan Sullivan shot a 3-under 69.
The final qualifier for the 90th Four-Ball Championship is set for Monday, May 2 at Westlake Golf & Country Club. Pairings and starting times can be found here.
