89th Four-Ball Qualifying Recap
MAY 4, 2021 - A total of 30 teams qualified this past week for the NJSGA’s 89th Four-Ball Championship, which will be played May 18-20 at Galloway National Golf Club (pictured above). There were three separate qualifying rounds played across the state, hosted by Mendham Golf and Tennis Club, Ballamor Golf Club, and Mercer Oaks Golf Club.
Joey Lostumbo and Michael Gallagher fired a three-under par 69 to pace the field at the first qualifier on April 26 at Mendham. James Cardamone and David Sampson, Stephen Shunk and Peter Borst, and William Bello and Brendan Jonland, finished tied for second at two-under par. All teams that finished one-over par or better earned a spot in the Four-Ball Championship.
In the qualifying round at Ballamor Golf Club on April 27, the low four teams and ties qualified for the championship at Galloway National. Deal Golf and Country Club’s Anthony Campanile and Brian Hart led the field with a seven-under-par 65. Johnny Murphy and James Kelly finished one stroke back, shooting a six-under-par 66. Four teams finished tied for third at three-under par to qualify for the mid-May championship.
The final qualifier saw co-medalists at Mercer Oaks Golf Club. Drake Ferriter and Matthew Carlson, along with Essex County Country Club’s Michael Guli and John Probst, topped the field with twin seven-under par 65s. Five teams finished tied for two-under par, as the top-11 teams to play at Mercer Oaks qualified for the Four-Ball Championship.
The 30 qualifying teams will participate in the Four-Ball Championship May 18-20 at Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. The first round will be 18-hole stroke play to determine the top-16, followed by match play the rest of the way to determine the champions who will be awarded the Ridgewood Country Club Championship Trophy.
