The State Open at Hackensack, the State Amateur at Canoe Brook, the State Mid-Amateur shifted to September at Trump National-Bedminster, and the addition of a new Women’s Four-Ball championship at TPC Jasna Polana are among the highlights of the NJSGA’s Championship Schedule for 2013.
The addition of the Women’s Four-Ball, on July 15, increases the NJSGA tournament total to 23.
The State Open will be played July 9-11 at Hackensack and the State Amateur on June 4-6 at Canoe Brook’s North Course.
“Our majors are scheduled for two of the best venues in New Jersey,” said Mike McAneny, NJSGA tournament director. “The addition of the Women’s Four-Ball provides more opportunity for more people to play competitive golf.”
The Mid-Amateur traditionally has been played early in the season, but McAneny felt the change from May to September 10-12 at Trump National-Bedminster was for the better.
“We’ve received a lot of feedback from players over the years that the Mid-Amateur is better suited for play later in the year. Last spring, it also included two qualifiers that were played in April. Golfers felt they just weren’t ready for that type of competition so early in the season,” McAneny said.
Replacing the Mid-Amateur in the spring is the Pre-Senior Championship on May 7-8 at Metuchen. Last year, the Pre-Senior, which has no qualifying tournaments, took place in September. The NJSGA/NJPGA Senior Open follows on May 13-14 at Navesink.
The Women’s Amateur is scheduled for July 29-August 1 at Brooklake in Florham Park. The Junior Girls is set for July 8-9 at Rumson. The Junior and Boys’ championship will be contested July 22-24 at Raritan Valley in Bridgewater.
