19 Competitors Advance to 39th Mid-Amateur Championship after Black Oak Qualifying
LONG VALLEY, N.J. – Cody Cox thrived on his home course, earning medalist honors with a 1-under par 71 on Monday afternoon in the 39th New Jersey Mid-Amateur Championship qualifier at Black Oak Golf Club. Overall, 19 players advanced to the Championship, which will be contested at Somerset Hills Country Club from June 8-10.
Cox, 27, notched 17 pars and one birdie on the 6,709 yard, par 72.
“I made a lot of good up and downs today,” explained Cox. “I kept the round going and was able to just grind out some pars where I got in some sticky spots off the tees and off the greens.”
Scores of 78 or better qualified as the course proved to be a challenge for competitors.
“The rough was thick out there, and you’re not always going to be able to hit it close from the rough, so I was able to make some good pars,” reflected Cox.
The final qualifier for the 39th Mid-Amateur Championship is set for Thursday, May 26 at Beacon Hill Country Club. Pairings and starting times can be found here.
