Weil Medals at Roxiticus in final Open Qualifying
MENDHAM, N.J. – The fifth and final qualifying round for the 102nd New Jersey Open Championship concluded on Wednesday at Roxiticus Golf Club.
Davis Weil of The Ridgewood Country Club was the lone competitor to break par on the par 70 6,445-yard course. Weil posted a 3-under par 67, highlighted by three birdies and an eagle.
“It started out pretty slow, I put one in the water on 2, I made a couple bogeys on the front nine and it took a little while to get into first gear,” Weil reflected. “Making a two from 120 yards on 17 always helps the score.”
Weil notched a blemish-free back nine. In his last appearance in the Open, Weil finished t-19th at Knickerbocker Country Club in 2020.
“Today I watched a few putts drop and it’s a bit of a cycle at that point. Once you start getting your confidence, the more putts start dropping. Going to the Ridge, keep the confidence that I found on the back nine, try to keep that going from the start and get out to a better start.”
The low 9 players (+ ties) have advanced to the championship at The Ridge at Back Brook from July 25-27, with the cut being 2-over par (72).
