100 Hole Hike Wraps Up at Madison Golf Club

MADISON, N.J. - 100 holes and 20 miles later, the Youth on Course 100 Hole Hike at Madison Golf Club is complete. For Rich Kennedy, John Gaona, Eric Houseknecht and Jeff Liebler who started at 6:30 a.m. on Monday morning, and finished at 8:15 p.m. on Monday night, the 100 holes was a tough but invaluable test.

"It’s an extreme physical challenge to walk the 100 holes, particularly for those of us who are old enough to be collecting social security benefits," former NJSGA President Houseknecht commented. "But our motivation is the opportunity to support a wonderful organization based on the brilliant concept of removing the cost barriers for kids to play golf as well as providing employment opportunities and college scholarships for members of the program."

Barry Hyde, Hetal Patel and Will Vieser also trekked Madison Golf Club on Monday.

Overall, the New Jersey group of seven raised a whopping $77,119.

The hike benefitted Youth on Course, an organization that’s mission and program helps provide young people with affordable access to play golf, along with opportunities to learn and gain work experience in the industry.

Through the generosity of individual donors and support of organizations throughout the country, the successful Youth on Course program subsidizes rounds of golf for $5 or less for children between the ages of 6 through 18. Since its founding by the Northern California Golf Association in 2006, Youth on Course has grown to over 130,000 members and 1,700 participating member courses in the United States.
