Course Description
The Minnisink Indians first referred to the club area as “Roxiticus” or “meeting place,” but, by the turn of the century, it was commonly referred to as Millionaires’ Mountain. A wealthy investment banker, Walter P. Bliss, purchased two Ballantine farms to build his personal estate, Wendover. In the 1960s, after several failed attempts to sell the property as a research center to the Kellogg Co., the owners of Englewood Golf Club—Jerry Volpe and Mr. Bern Shanley—partnered to build and operate a golf club in Mendham. Despite numerous setbacks, including a stock-market recession and a devastating fire that destroyed the original mansion, Roxiticus Golf Club grew to be one of the most exclusive clubs in New Jersey, largely through Shanley’s unwavering vision, determination and dedication.
