The final match of the 114th Met Amateur Championship provided a thrilling finish Sunday at Country Club of Fairfield, as Stewart Hagestad of Deepdale outlasted Ethan Ng of Fiddler’s Elbow in 38 holes, claiming the title with a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-4 second hole. The victory for Hagestad capped off an outstanding week, in which the 25-year old fired an overall MGA-championship record 9-under 61, before also setting a new on-site qualifying record (15-under/125) for the Met Amateur.

The event included seven New Jersey golfers among the final eight.

EARLIER RESULTS:

Ethan Ng of Fiddler's Elbow and Stewart Hagestad of Deepdale met in the 36-hole final of the Met Amateur on Sunday (Aug. 7) at Fairfield (Conn.) Country Club.

On Saturday, Hagestad defeated Dawson Jones of Jumping Brook while Ng beat Kieran Purcell of Essex County.

Ng captured the Carter Cup on the second hole of sudden death at Winged Foot on Wednesday. Hagestad opened the Met Amateur with a course-record 61 at the Country Club of Fairfield on Thursday.

On Saturday, New Jersey golfers Kieran Purcell of Essex County, Dawson Jones of Jumping Brook and Ethan Ng of Fiddler's Elbow have reached the Saturday semifinals of the Met Amateur at Fairfield Country Club in Connecticut.

Jones faces medalist Stewart Hagestad of New York's Deepdale while Purcell and Ng square off for the opporunity to reach Sunday's final match.

Inj the quadterfinals, seven New Jersey-based golfers had advanced.

Former NJSGA Public Links champion Ryan Siegler of MGA eClub, a Mercer County resident, faces Dawson Jones of Jumping Brook in one match; Foremr State Open and Amateur champion Max Greyserman of Crestmont faces Kieran Purcell of Essex County; Ethan Ng of Fiddler's Elbow faces 2016 Amatuer champion Thomas La Morte of Haworgh, and two-time State Amateur Champion Mike Stamberger faces New Yorker Stewart Hagestad of Deepdale.

Last year, Peter Kim of Royce Brook, a West Point cadet, defeted Ryan Snouffer of Essex County, 1 up.
