Eleven Teams Advance to the 92nd Four-Ball Championship
EATONTOWN, N.J. - Eleven duos will head to Hollywood Golf Club to compete in the 92nd Four-Ball Championship after a qualifying round at Suneagles Golf Club on April 15. The tandem of Matthew Porter and Cody Cox fired a 9-under par 63 en route to medalist honors.
The former Penn State University men's golfers recorded a blemish-free scorecard, carding seven birdies and an eagle.
“We were both in every single hole and that really helped,” Cox explained. “There was only one hole that we were really out of play and he (Matthew) had a great shot to get on the green. It was pretty stress free when your partner is always in the hole.”
Another pair of former college teammates in Monmouth University alumni Anthony Campanile and Brian Hart finished on the heels of the medalists, carding an 8-under par 64.
The father and son duo of Michael and Jack Stamberger qualified with a 7-under par 65. Their round was highlighted by an eagle on the 515 yard par-5 18th hole.
“It was fun,” Mike said. “Suneagles is a fun golf course to play and we got along well, which was nice,” Mike said.
Hollywood will host its first NJSGA major championship since the 2011 Open.
The second of four qualifiers for the Four-Ball will be on Wednesday, April 17 at Galloping Hill Golf Course.
